Alifa Ahmed officially took oath as the newly elected MLA from Kaliaganj on Wednesday. The oath of office and secrecy was administered by Assembly Speaker Biman Banerjee at the West Bengal Legislative Assembly. Her victory in the Kaliaganj by-election marked a significant development for the ruling Trinamool Congress in North Dinajpur district.
The swearing-in ceremony was attended by senior state ministers including Firhad Hakim, Chandrima Bhattacharya, Malay Ghatak, and Debashis Kumar. Alifa contested the bypoll following the death of her father, the former MLA from the same seat. Her election to the assembly filled the vacancy created by his passing and was closely observed in the context of regional political developments.
During her address, Alifa Ahmed said, "This victory is dedicated to my father's soul. The work that remained incomplete, it is my duty to complete it. I will work continuously as a soldier of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for the service of the people and the development of the region."
